61.8–2 m€1,800–€3,200

Leave about a metre between the table's edge and the wall or the next piece of furniture, so chairs pull out. Measure the room before you fall for a slab: a 2.5 m table needs a long room.

The look

A clear seam or a full river?

A clear seam joins two slabs with a thin line of resin and lets the wood lead. A full river puts a wide channel of coloured or clear resin down the middle and makes the resin the star. The river takes far more resin and costs more.

The base changes the table as much as the top: a black welded steel frame (€200–€450) looks modern and keeps the legs out of the way; a solid timber trestle (€350–€700) suits a country kitchen.

Questions

Questions we get asked

How much is a resin dining table in Ireland?

€1,200–€2,000 for 4, €1,800–€3,200 for 6 and €2,800–€4,500 for 8 in oak before resin; €4,000–€5,100 for a 2.5 m river table in Irish timber.

How long should a table for 6 be?

About 1.8 to 2 metres. For 8, about 2.2 to 2.4 metres.

Is a resin dining table practical with kids?

Yes, with mats. The resin is hard and wipes clean; hot dishes are the thing to watch, because cured resin softens at about 40 to 60°C.

Can I put a hot plate on a resin table?

No. Cured table resin starts to soften at about 40 to 60°C, so a hot pan, a hot plate or a mug straight from the kettle can mark it. Use mats and coasters. A mark in the resin can be sanded and polished out.
