How much does an epoxy resin table cost in Ireland?

An Irish-made resin coffee table costs €450–€550. A live edge dining table for 6 in oak is €1,800–€3,200 before resin, and a 2.5 m river dining table in Irish timber with resin €4,000–€5,100.

Why are resin tables so expensive?

The slab, the resin and the time. A wide, dry hardwood slab is scarce; a river can take 10 litres of casting resin or more; and the resin goes in layers that each have to cure before the top is flattened, sanded and finished.

Does epoxy resin go yellow?

All epoxy yellows a little in strong sunlight over time: no epoxy is fully UV resistant. Table resins carry UV absorbers, and a polyurethane topcoat helps. Keep the table out of strong direct sun and it holds its look for years indoors.

Can I put a hot plate on a resin table?

No. Cured table resin starts to soften at about 40 to 60°C, so a hot pan, a hot plate or a mug straight from the kettle can mark it. Use mats and coasters. A mark in the resin can be sanded and polished out.

How long does a resin table take to make?

The making is 2 to 3 days for a simple slab table and 5 to 8 days for complex work. Resin adds its own time: each pour waits 12 to 72 hours before the next, and a deep pour needs 7 to 14 days to fully cure.

Can I see the slab before it's made?

Yes, and you should. A good maker sends photos or has you in to pick the slab, because no two are alike and the grain decides the look of the whole table.

Is a DIY kit cheaper?

In cash, yes. In time and risk, no: a river needs litres of casting resin poured in layers at 18 to 20°C, then a router sled and a sander to flatten and finish it. Small pieces are a fair first project; a dining table is a maker's job.

Who makes my table?

One Irish resin table maker. Your design goes to one maker only, never a list. They contact you, show you slabs and give you a price. Nothing is ordered until you say yes.

Can a resin table go outside?

Not as a rule. Casting resins are made for indoor furniture: sun and frost work on both the resin and the wood. A covered, shaded spot is the most you should ask of one.

How do you clean a resin table?

A soft cloth with warm water and a drop of washing-up liquid, then dry it. No scouring pads, and no solvents such as acetone or nail polish remover on the finish.

Do the prices include VAT?

Ask for the price in writing with VAT shown, and with the base and the delivery on their own lines, so you're comparing like with like.

What is a river table?

Two live edge slabs set apart with resin poured between them, so the resin runs the length of the table like a river.

What wood is best for a resin table?

Oak or ash for a hard-wearing everyday table; walnut for a dark, rich look; elm or spalted beech for wild grain.

What happens to my details?

Your design, your name, mobile and email go to one Irish resin table maker only, so they can contact you about the table. They're not sold or passed to anyone else.

Is this site a furniture maker?

No. Epoxy Resin Table is an introduction service: it passes your design to one Irish resin table maker, who prices it and makes the table.
